Scrap It!!: The Bears need a complete face lift.

Now that the Lovie Smith era is over the Bears and GM Phil Emery turn their attention to the future. Naturally the process will begin with finding a new head coach that fits the organizations goals for the future. I think what Phil should do instead is look for a brand new team. The Bears as a team have failed to get it done over the past 9 years. You could place much of the blame on the coach or the GM of the last decade but these elements have now been removed. So the question we ask now is why hold on to any of the mess Lovie and Angelo created?

Let’s take a Q from the Bears MLB counterpart the Cubs sometimes you have to get worse before you can really get better. That idea in mind it really is not worth trying to take the pieces left on this Bears team and try to patch together a championship contender. Emery should just clean house. Send anything of value on this roster away for picks and young players and start to build this team up from the ground the right way. No exceptions. Marshall, Cutler, Forte, Briggs they all can go!

Sounds crazy but it’s not look how fast the 49ers, Seahawks and Redskins have been able to turn things around. If Emery really wants the Bears to be the money ball of football the template has been set by the GMs of those teams. Look at some of the moves they made. Seahawks grabbing Russell Wilson in the 3Rd round and taking the chance on Marshawn Lynch, the 9ers grabbing Collin Kaepernick in the 2nd round and the Redskins finding Alfred Morris in the 6th round. These are the kind of moves that are out there to be made and Emery is a top college scouting type at least according to his resume so there is no reason to believe he can’t duplicate some of the improbable success that other teams are having with draft picks.

Patrick Peterson
So here’s the plan. Jay Cutler has one year left on his contract and he quite frankly has not been that good. Forte can be replaced and everybody else except for Brandon Marshall aren’t really moving the meter. So trade everybody to the Cardinals! Here’s how. The Bears send Cutler(Qb), Marshall(WR), Briggs(LB), Hester(WR/Returner), Forte(RB) to the cards for Patrick Peterson(CB/Returner), Daryl Washington(LB), Malcolm Floyd(WR) and a bunch off picks. Why would the cards even think making this lopsided deal? Well they get Brandon Marshall and Larry Fitzgerald on the field together with a better than competent but not stellar QB in Cutler plus Forte. The Bears in return will have a couple off first round picks over the next few year plus Paterson, Washington and Floyd who are all young and very promising as well as very cheap. Now you could make the argument that the Bears don’t need Patterson because they already have two top tier corner backs but I think Peterson who plays CB at 6’1 219lb could easily bulk up 240 and play linebacker….. Yeah that’s a pretty scary thought….yup that’s frightening.

Daryl Washington leads the Cards with 134 TKLs

More than likely this is not happening nobody whose job is on the line would take such drastic rolls of the dice and trade away all their talent for picks. In the end I’m hoping the bears do make moves to  free up cap space, get younger and more talented on both sides of the ball and stock pile picks. In the end  I do think Phil Emery is the guy to get that done.
